Hey! Everyone who’s gotten married or those who know a lot about weddings!
We need some help. We’re starting to put together the list of things we need to plan and more importantly (at this time), budget for. Take a look at our budget planning page here and let us know what we’re missing in the comments of this post. Thanks!
Does the “Videography” portion of the budget include money for an Xbox 360?!?!?
Let’s see. For her dress: Alterations (sometimes included), veil (sometimes included), accessories. Makeup and hair (plus trials of makeup and hair).
…where the hell is our old budget…. it was a total mess…
Calligrapher (if you’re doing that). Save-the-dates if you’re bothering. Thank You cards.
Bevvies & bartenders (sometimes a separate cost from the catering, sometimes included, sometimes included with venue, etc). Cake is sometimes included, often not. Venues will sometimes get you with a cake cutting fee..
Ceremony: candles/flowers. Ceremony musicians if you’re doing that. Umm. RINGS.
Car (limo, shuttle) rental(s), bride/groom hotel room (if you’re doing that). Guest shuttle/parking (as with most things, optional). Attendant gifts. Parental gifts.
We got married in a Catholic Church, so needed Pre-Cana (just one day, relatively painless) – there was a fee for that. I threw “website” in our budget, and Dana got “pampering” (and no, that’s not diapers).
Hutch – we’re registering for the 360 (and if it’s out in time, the PS3) and an HDTV. Karen has already agreed, though she may have been doing so in jest, but I’m not taking it that way, so HAH!
Fitz – perhaps I can use the “website” vs. “pampering” plan as well and throw the Xbox 360 in there.
I was dead serious – I totally want an XBox 360.
And yes, we do need to include money so I can get my hair did.
Way to go, Garrett! Karen sounds really great.
Don’t be afraid to ask for discounts! See if you can get a better deal if you buy so much of something, and perhaps suggest you will put their business on your agendas (if you are passing them out at the wedding)
Also, if you have a friend who sows well, tell them an AWESOME gift would be if they would sow your dress for you (you are a designer, correct?) if you get the fabric for them…
Ask around, see if anybody knows a good wedding cake maker, and offer to pay them, it will be less than most places will charge you!
Dont forget to go ahead and start thinking about what colors you want your wedding to be, so your flowers and brides maid dresses, decorations… wont clash.
hope i was helpful:)
Here, here Hutch. Where did you find this one Garrett? Seems to me that there need to be more women in this world who want video games as wedding presents.
Yeah, what Mark said, and don’t forget shoes–that would be a good idea. I broke them in by wearing them around with sweat socks. It’s totally hot and guys dig it. Works, though. Um, ringbearer’s pillow, guestbook, oh hell, I could probably go on and on. And don’t use the budget planning guide on theknot.com. They totally f’d us over with their bad math and two months out from the wedding we realized we were 20% overbudget when we thought we were 20% underbudget. Oops.
